Phillip Walters charged in death of missing Wyoming County woman

Haley Lorenzen's body still has not been recovered

TUNKHANNOCK, WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - The search for a missing woman in Wyoming County has now turned into a homicide investigation.

The Wyoming County District Attorney, Jeffrey Mitchell says Phillip Walters of Mill City has been charged with homicide for the death of Haley Lorenzen who was last seen on December 30 at her home on Route 307 in Falls Township. Detectives say Lorenzen met Walters online and moved from Oregon to Wyoming County last November.

According to arrest affidavits, Walters called 911 on the afternoon of December 31st saying that Lorenzen was missing and that he could not contact her. Walters told authorities that all of Lorenzen's  personal belongings, such as her purse and clothes, were still in the house, but her cell phone was missing.

The investigation took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when a woman, who said she was having a sexual relationship with Walters, met with law enforcement. Investigators say that woman told police that she told Walters she was tired of being the other woman and at that time time he allegedly told her he was going to kill Lorenzen. The woman says she didn’t take him seriously; however, on the morning of December 30th, Walters asked her to come to his home. She said when she arrived at the home,  she saw the body of Lorenzen in the bathroom. Walters allegedly told her he choked her and hit her on the head with a hammer. The woman told detectives she and Walters cleaned up blood, placed Lorenzen’s body into a car, and took it to the Falls Bridge. They tied bags of rocks to the body and dumped it into the Susquehanna River.

Even though Walters was charged with criminal homicide Wednesday night and jailed without bail, prosecutors say they have not yet located the body of Haley Lorenzen.

Mitchell, in a written statement, says "Every effort is being made to locate Haley's body so she can be returned to her family."

They say the investigation is still ongoing.
