HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Drivers along I-81 in Luzerne County might notice a lot of activity going on in one community.
Construction crews are building a massive warehouse that’s expected to create hundreds of jobs.
Workers with Clayco Construction are building a new 800,000 square foot fulfillment center inside the Hanover Industrial Park. According to published reports, the new tenants will be the online retailer “chewy.com” . The Florida company sells pet food and other pet related products.
In a statement to the Citizen’s Voice, a spokesperson for the company said: ” We chose the area because of the great workforce available and the location to our customers. We have a growing customer base in the Northeast and we want to be closer to them in order to offer faster delivery times.”
The company says it’ll create some 600 drops. Project supervisor Jeff Jensen says they are right on schedule with construction. However, Jensen says that working on a project like this can be challenging.
It appears chewy.com will be the first tenant. It’s not clear at this time who will occupy the other two buildings. Leaders say all three warehouses will be an economic boost to the area.
