BENTON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) From lake activities to grilling thousands of people ar eout enjoying their Memorial Day.
“We’re just out here catching some fish,” said Evan Slachta of Childs.
8-year-old Slachta came to Lackawanna State Park on his day off from school to see what’s biting.
Dozens of kayakers spent time in the water catching some sun and realization. “It’s just nice out! I love having the sun beat on me and everything. it’s nice weather! I love it!” said Nicole Mehall of Scranton.
Whether you’re in the lake or on land, the sun is beating the same. Dozens of people spent the day in the swimming pool trying to cool off.
“It’s fun! Because it’s Memorial Day so it’s a holiday and you get to go swimming!” said Jayda Gallagher.
In between swimming, kayaking and fishing, you’re eating! Hundreds of people set up a tent or rented out a pavilion to grill up some hot dogs and hamburgers.
“We got a good day to celebrate her birthday, which is next week but not knowing what the weather might do it’s really a good day,” said Melissa Hampton.
Many people here at the park tell me they do nothing all weekend long and then spend their entire Memorial Day at the park.
