PennDOT closes Coxton Road indefinitely in Luzerne County

DURYEA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – State highway officials say Coxton Road between Main Street in Duryea and the Lackawanna County line will remain closed until further notice because of flood damage.

Officials say the roadway was initially closed by flooding on October 3rd. However, they say, once the flood waters left engineers found severe damage both to the road and the ground beneath it.

They say there’s also a potential for rock slides on the rock face along the side of the road.

Work to stabilize the rock face and repair the road damage is expected to take at least several weeks.
