JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A community is mourning as State Police investigate a double murder-suicide.
The shooting happened Tuesday night near Lake Ariel in Wayne County.
Family, friends, and fellow parishioners shared hugs, tears, and memories at Light of Christ Church in Jefferson Township.
State Police said William Rowen shot and killed Carrie Martini and her boyfriend Dale Thomas before turning the gun on himself.
Investigators said the shooter and Martini had recently ended their relationship, and that may have played a role in this tragedy.
Pastor Pat Lee led the service to pray for all three people who died in the double murder-suicide, but Martini was well-known in this tight-knit community.
“It doesn’t make sense,” said Lee. “I can’t say it makes sense! I can’t tell people that, but I can tell people she lived like she was ready to die. She lived a life that she has no regrets!”
The Wayne County Coroner expects to perform autopsies on the three people involved in the double murder-suicide later this week.
