One hurt in downtown Wilkes-Barre shooting

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) - One person is in the hospital after a shooting in Wilkes-Barre early Thursday morning.

Just before 2 AM, officers were called to South Main and West South Streets for reports of a fight.  That scene is near the federal building and Wilkes University's campus.

Police say a person inside an SUV was shot as the vehicle drove away from the scene.  The car then crashed into a light pole, knocking traffic lights to the ground.

Police confirm at least one person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Crews spent Thursday morning cleaning up the scene and removing the damaged light post from the area.

There's currently no one in custody.
