Olyphant residents honor fallen baseball player with tournament


OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Family, friends and other supporters of a former Lackawanna county standout baseball player got together to play some ball in his memory.

The 3rd annual Shane Rivenburgh memorial big ball tournament got underway yesterday in Olyphant.

It’s named after an 18-year-old Mayfield man who was killed in 2016 by a DUI driver.

Shane was a starter for the Lackawanna college baseball team after starring for the Lakeland Chiefs.

More than two dozen teams are competing in the big ball tournament which wraps-up today.

Proceeds go toward the Shane Rivenburgh baseball memorial fund.
