JENKINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) It’s the day to give back to our communities. Employees of The Nexstar Media Group- the parent company of Eyewitness News-WBRE- donate time and efforts to nonprofit agencies and groups who serve those in need in communities across the nation. It’s called Nexstar Founder’s Day.
The I-Team’s Andy Mehalshick joined us Live from the St. Vincent DePaul Kitchen in Wilkes-Barre during our noon newscast on WYOU.
Nexstar Founder’s Day was launched in 1996 by Perry Sook, Founder and C-E-O of Nexstar Media to help this those in need in the communities the Nexstar television stations serve. Eyewitness News staffers are helping prepare and serve food to the folks who come here for meals every day.
“Founding day 1996, 21 years ago and this is the first station of Nexstar Broadcasting. When we are done with the Tribune acquisition, which will happen this year will be at 197 stations across the country in 46 states. We had an absolute unbelievable run as a company, of building a company. But the reason why we are here today, why we are doing this across the country it is all part of giving back to the community. We are proud to serve the community. We licensed to be in the community, to serve our viewers, provide great news content, exceptional programming, entertainment, sports and connection to the community. So what we are doing today we have a lot of our employees today around the entire country that are giving back time. So we are paying for their time to give back to the community and also making a matching donation to each of the foundations within each of our markets across the country. So we are very proud of what we are doing. It started right here with WYOU. We are proud to serve all the viewers of this area” said Tim Busch, President Nexstar Broadcasting.
Consider this in 2018, the more than 170 stations of the Nexstar Nation donated nearly 13,500 hours. 3,700 volunteers took part and Nexstar Media helped raise just over $190,000.
The purpose of this effort is also to raise awareness of the need in our communities across the nation. We will have more on Nexstar Founder’s Day on Eyewitness News throughout the day.
