(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Ruth’s Place will be the topic of discussion on this Sunday’s Newsmakers.
Host Jayne Ann Bugda will be joined by Crystal Kotlowski, Ruth’s Place Program Coordinator and Rainy Boyle, Group Leader.
They will discuss the history of Ruth’s Place, Luzerne County’s only Homeless Women’s Shelter and the many programs and services offered there. Kotlowski and Boyle will also talk about how Ruth’s Place has made a difference in many women’s lives over the years. They will also discuss the need for volunteers.
Newsmakers will air Sunday, December 9 at 6:30 am on WYOU and 11:30 am on WBRE.
Ruth’s Place is the only emergency shelter for homeless women in Luzerne County. A program of Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, Ruth’s Place has provided emergency shelter and services for over 4,000 homeless women since its beginning in 2003.

Meet our Guests
Crystal Kotlowski is the Program Coordinator for Ruth’s Place Women’s Shelter. Crystal has comprehensive training and experience assisting individuals who are experiencing homelessness and other difficult circumstances. Crystal has a history of training and education in teaching life skills, engaging clients with severe substance use or mental health concerns, and providing trauma informed care. Crystal obtained her Applied Associates in Human Services from Luzerne County Community College in 2013 after completing an internship at Ruth’s Place. She was hired under a Resident Advisor/Security position and has also worked as Group Leader and Case Manager. During her time at Ruth’s Place Crystal has developed effective skills for working with difficult to serve populations. Crystal was able to develop and implement a life skills based group program for the residents of Ruth’s Place which has been operating successfully for five years.
Rainy Ann Cloud Boyle has training and experience assisting individuals experiencing crisis situations with life skill based groups and activities. Rainy has a history of training and education on sustainable living practices, substance abuse, coping skills, and trauma informed care. Rainy obtained her Bachelors of Science from King’s College in Ecology based Biology in 2015. She went on to work at the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice in Indiana before becoming the Group Leader at Ruth’s Place in November 2015. Rainy was hired at Ruth’s Place as a part time Resident Advisor after her numerous years of volunteer work at the shelter while attending King’s College. Rainy has been able to utilize her background in ecology at Ruth’s Place and with the help of AmeriHealth Northeast created raised garden beds to grow fresh produce on site at the shelter.
