HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Like the vines in their vineyard, Linda and Randy Rice’s accomplishments continue to grow.
“It was just one miracle after another,” Randy Rice explains.
The couple just opened a brand-new winery in Hamilton Township featuring a barrel bar, elegant event room, and stunning view.
“We never imagined in a million years we’d be able to accomplish something like this,” Randy grins.
The wine business was an ‘acquired taste’. Linda started out as a successful pharmaceutical representative and Randy made a living as a school teacher. One trip to the Finger Lakes inspired them to ditch their careers to become farmers.
Randy adds, “the bug bit me! I just knew I had to go home and plant some vines!”
In 2009, the Rice’s opened Mountain View Vineyard, Winery and Distillery in Jackson Township. Their latest location, just two miles away, is four times the size.
“I just felt it was the next step we need to do. Our customers really dictated the need to grow,” says Linda Rice.
The new spot also has a delicious Bistro. After a tasting, Chef Lyman Winner suggests grabbing a bite to eat.
“You sit down and have great wine and great food. We’re hoping to create an amazing experience throughout the years,” says Chef Lyman Winner, owner of the Frogtown Bistro at Mountain View Vineyard.
A toast to planting a vision and watching it grow.
“God moved mountains to make this happen,” Randy adds.
Mountain View’s original location will focus as a distillery. This project created more than 30 new jobs. The new winery officially opens Saturday, but you need tickets for opening weekend.
