AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – PennDOT contractors spent a chilly morning Friday adding a new element to the roads leading to the Wilkes Barre/Scranton International Airport.

Crews painted a series of 11 airplanes on the highways of the roundabouts leading into and out of the airport.

The paintings will hopefully help lead motorists from Interstate 81 to the airport.

Since the roundabouts were installed in 2015-16, motorists have complained about the confusing sets of regular roadway signs directing people into the airport.

The project was delayed about a week due to rainy weather.
