New Playground Opens in The Poconos

Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County – After three years of hard work, kids in part of the Poconos finally have a new playground. It took nearly $200,000 and countless volunteer hours to make it happen.

The Resica Park Community playground behind Resica Elementary School is finally open. “It’s just wonderful to finally see the kids out there. They’re smiling. They’re having so much fun,” beamed school Principal Gail Kulick.

All students got to play on the equipment for the first time Monday.

Students haven’t had a playground in more than a year. Volunteers tore down the old one in June of 2014 because it wasn’t safe.

Then, there were many twists and turns in the fundraising and rebuilding process so it took longer than anticipated.
