AVOCA, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) A new municipal building in Luzerne County opened its door over the weekend.
People gathered to watch a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Avoca Borough Building on Main Street.
Workers invited community members to tour the new building.
Avoca borough council was excited to show off the finished product.
It’s the site where Saints Peter and Paul Church stood before it was demolished in 2014.
The new borough building features some of the former house of worship.
“We tried to save what we could from the church and incorporate it into our new building so the parishioners have that little bit of memory.” Said John Boone the Avoca Council President
“It’s a very close knit community. The roots run very deep here in Avoca and for us to have this brand new borough building really marks an important day.” added Representative Michael Carroll, (D) 118th District.
The new borough building replaces the old one that had been used since 1910.
