New Local Police Chief Takes Over

News

Nanticoke, Luzerne County (WBRE/WYOU) – A local police department started a new chapter Wednesday night.  After losing their well-known and well-liked leader to cancer in August, the Nanticoke Police Department now has a new chief.

With his right hand raised, Retired State Police Corporal Thomas Wall took the oath of office Wednesday, becoming Nanticoke Police Department’s new chief.  The appointment comes a month after long-time Chief William Shultz passed away following a battle with cancer.  Though the department recently fell on hard times, this new beginning brings new hope to the community.

Chief Wall explains his future plans saying “we have to evaluate the department.  We have to look at the strong points and weaknesses and make the corrections necessary to be an effective police department, effective and efficient police department.”  He is eager to get things moving in the right direction, but says it will take time.

He will be in charge of the department consisting of 14 full-time and 2 part-time officers and his first day is Monday.
