STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Deliliah Santos of Bushkill likes using the Rite Aid Pharmacy in the Stroudsburg Shop-Rite plaza
Santos says, “they are patient with me and understand I have children. They get my prescriptions done way faster.”
She likes the idea of Rite Aid building a larger store across the street between MConnell and Main Streets. Renderings show the new Rite Aid would include a drive-thru pharmacy. That’s something the current location doesn’t have.
“Oh yeah definitely, that would be so much better,” adds Santos.
Developers want to buy several pieces of land between MConnell and Main Streets, join them together, then begin construction. The Stroudsburg Borough owns one of those parcels.
“It’s really been more of a process than they normally would have to go through because of the component of the Borough owning one of the pieces of property,” says Cathryn Thomas, Stroudsburg Borough Manager.
Bids for this borough-owned piece of land were announced Wednesday. Rite Aid developers were the only bidder, offering $25,000 dollars plus an un-required deposit.
“I can tell you the developer is very anxious to proceed at the earliest possible date and so is Rite Aid,” says Bill Cramer, representing Rite Aid developer BTS Stroudsburg LLC.
Thomas adds, “it’s all far from over with. There’s a lot to go yet.”
It’s now up to Council to decide if they will accept Wednesday’s single bid. The Borough does not have to sell the piece of land at all. They will decide at the Council meeting next Tuesday evening at 7 PM.
If the Stroudsburg Borough Council approves the sale, Rite Aid developers would still have to acquire the other properties, where seven houses currently stand.
