DELAWARE WATER GAP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Forget dodging potholes, get ready to dodge construction barrels instead. Starting Friday, there will be several detours in Delaware Water Gap for the next 6 to 8 weeks.
‘Joe Bosco Authentic Smokehouse BBQ’ is a family-owned eatery that just opened about eight weeks ago. “It’s been exciting, it’s been great, we’ve been doing really well,” says Justine Cosares, general manager.
The owners are a little nervous that roads around their new business will be detoured for weeks.
“It could be a little bit of an inconvenience, but I think in the long run it will help. It will be beneficial for everybody once it’s all said and done,” Cosares adds.
Starting Friday there will be three closures with detours, so workers can construct a roundabout at the main intersection in Delaware Water Gap.
“This is nothing. If they have to improve something, they have to do construction. So, that’s the only way you’re going to get something accomplished,” Bob Matte of New York City believes.
You’ll still be able to get to the Welcome Center and the nearby Park-And-Ride lot, but you will have to follow some detours.
The project started in April. In addition to building a roundabout, PennDOT will also replace ramps.
This is a $14 million-dollar project, expected to be finished in November.
“It’s a little bit of an inconvenience, but it’s well worth it,” says Barbara Lyne of New York City.
Drivers can expect weekday and weeknight lane restrictions throughout the project, which is weather permitting.
- Access to Broad Street and River Road from I-80 east will be closed. The posted 3.3-mile Broad Street/River Road detour will route traffic on the ramp for PA 611 north, Foxtown Hill Road, PA 611 (Main Street) south and Broad Street;
- Access from Broad Street to I-80 west at Exit 310 will be closed. The posted 3.5-mile detour for I-80 west access will route traffic on Broad Street, PA 611 (Main Street/Foxtown Hill Road) north, and PA 191 (Broad Street) to I-80 west at Exit 307.
- Access from Broad Street to Walnut Drive will be closed. The posted 5.4-mile Walnut Drive detour will route traffic on River Road, Buttermilk Falls Road, US 209 (Seven Bridges Road), I-80 east (at Exit 309), to Exit 310 (PA 611).
