DANVILLE, MONTOUR COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – As millions of people celebrated the new year, some of them celebrated becoming new parents. One lucky baby from Northumberland County holds the title of the first baby of 2019 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Nicole Renee Chestnut was born at 1:07a.m. on January 1, 2019. She was seven pounds and five ounces and 19.5 inches long. Tiffany Chestnut says she was not due for another ten days and she was at home on New Year’s Eve relaxing with her family.
“I thought, maybe I’ll try and get my pork and sauerkraut in between my contractions and then said ‘I think I need to go to the hospital’ and she wanted to come early,” Tiffany said.
Nicole’s dad, Jason, was not able to be in the hospital for the actual delivery because he was taking care of another family member who was just coming out of the hospital. Luckily, grandmom stepped in to help.
“And it was just trying to be a great coach for what she is and she did so good. When that baby came out, it was like ‘Hallelujah, my little grandbaby is here!’ It was just a blessing,” Ruth Troup, little Nicole’s grandmother, said.
Nicole now joins her two big sisters, Julia, 5, and Allison, 3. They both say they are ready to help out!
