NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) The city of Nanticoke has seen some better days.
Many in the community believe that the downtown is long overdue for a ‘facelift”.
A new Streetscape project is promising to do just that…
And the I-Team’s Andy Mehalshick had an opportunity to check out the plans and progress today
“More businesses more jobs around here. It’s depressed.” Matt James doesn’t mince words when he talks about downtown Nanticoke.
He and many others in this community are hopeful this construction work will deliver the promised results. City and state officials admit it’s taking longer than expected.
Senator John Yudichak helped the city obtain a million dollars in grants for the project.
“Unfortunately, there’s been a lot of work in the infrastructure that had to occur over the last two years. Telecommunication lines, sewer lines, water lines that are all being done now since 2016.” Senator Yudichak noted.
The first steps in the total transformation of “center city” to what an artist’s rendering of what the downtown will look like.

Nanticoke Business Manager Donna Wall says the city is working with private developers to change the face of the downtown. “It would be a multi-use public use on the bottom, retail, and affordable senior housing I believe 40 units”
