SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — This story is proof that there are still plenty of good people out there.
A mother from Schuylkill County said her faith in humanity is restored after something a stranger did for her son.
11-year-old Danny Bendetti has autism and epilepsy, so grabbing a bite to eat isn’t always easy.
In fact, it’s so challenging that his mother Kelly hasn’t tried to take him to a restaurant in almost a year.
She decided to bring Danny to the Manheim Diner in Schuylkill Haven on Monday, and he smacked a man’s arm as they were waiting to be seated.
He told her it was fine, but Kelly couldn’t tell if this stranger was silently judging Danny as he made a mess at the table, at least until it was time for the check.
But the bill never came, because the same man picked up their tab, bringing tears to this mother’s eyes and hope to her heart.
“When you have people, who out of nowhere, the kindness of their heart, that empathy, compassion, and no judgment, it’s such a relief,” said Kelly.
The act of kindness didn’t come as much of a surprise to the servers at the Manheim Diner, because they said it happens all the time there.
