Mysterious power outages keep happening in Hanover Township

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) -- We start tonight with questions about power outages in one part of our region. Those outages come and go.. angering and frustrating the people who live there.

It's happening in the Hanover township area of Luzerne county. Many residents contacted the i-team when they say their calls for help to u.G.I... the power provider.. went unanswered.

"U.G.I. Is really dropping the ball here. They just haven't corrected the problem," Josie Johnson of Hanover Township said.

Josie Johnson fox says she is sick and tired of ongoing power outages..she lives in the breslau section of Hanover township..

"We started back in November our electricity would go out 30 to 45 seconds then it would come back on. It started happening consistently every Saturday," Johnson Fox said.

Fox says she rarely leaves her house..

"It's not like I'm losing hundreds of dollars in food that's not my dilemma, my dilemma is I have a security system and once there is a break it must be reset," Johnson Fox said.

And until it is reset..a loud ear piercing alarm sounds...The alarm frightens her three dogs... And she is not alone in her disgust..Richard Moskaluk lives across the street..

"They come and they go sometimes they are short sometimes they are short..it is very upsetting," Moskaluk said.

"This is very unusual because we couldn't find the cause..." Don Brominksi of UGI said.

Ugi spokesman Don Brominki says the utility worked for several months to find the cause of the power outages..and think they have solved the mystery

"We determined it might be a customer load coming on too quickly. So we adjusted some sensors to allow for the and we think we have finally rectified the problem.." Brominski said.

Brominski said that during their search for the power outages they even had engineers stationed throughout  the Hanover township area looking for problems with the power lines. While those engineers were in the filed..there were no outages..but shortly after they left the area..the power would go out...Ugi is confident the problem has been resolved.

Ugi officials say the companies connected to the power outages were not to blame for the problem..the problem was with the system which was not properly set up to handle the demand for the electricity.
