SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- Mother’s Day is a day to thank moms everywhere, including those who adopt and foster children.
The Diocese of Scranton did that Sunday morning, with an adoption mass led by Bishop Joseph Bambera at the Cathedral of Saint Peter.
His liturgy recognizes adoptive and foster mothers, as well as all women who play a special role in the lives of children and young adults.
Ruth Yaple is a godmother of two, and knows she makes a difference in her godchildren’s lives.
“I try to institute,” says Yaple. “They are Catholic and they have their sacraments, but I try to help them out with prayer and rosary.”
The special mass was co-sponsored by Catholic Social Services, the Diocesan Office for Parish Life, and St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton.
