CARBONDALE (WBRE/WYOU-TV) Children from around the area are helping in an attempt to break a Guinness World Book record for a good cause
Kids at the YMCA in Carbondale took part in Miles of Smiles by helping to bead a necklace on Thursday that will eventually be seven miles long.
As of now, the necklace is about three and a half miles.
The current record is five miles.
The necklace will be measured by the Guinness World Records on October third at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond.
After that, it will be cut down into 24-inch strands of love beads to be sold for 20-dollars each to benefit a free cancer retreat for women and children.
Kids in summer camps across the region are helping bead the necklace.
Several schools will also take part once classes begin.
