(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley is marking a milestone.
50 years of serving meals to those who are homebound with the motto- ‘We Deliver Meals and Miles of Smiles’
To mark the anniversary the nonprofit kicked off a fundraising initiative called” First 50″.
They hope to raise 50 thousand dollars from local businesses and individuals.
The Woodland’s Inn and Resort is also celebrating 50 years and today the first donation of $1,000.
The donations will be used to keep the cost of the meals low for those who use the service
“We deliver smiles, we will call loved ones if we think they’re hurting, I’ve made beds for them. I’ve called an ambulance. We do more than just deliver meals and we may be the only people they see that day,” Said Cornelia Romanowski, Board President, Meals On Wheels Of Wyoming Valley
“Everything that they do comes from donations, so whatever you guys can do, whatever we can do, we’re here for Meals on Wells,” Said Mitch Kornfeld, Co-Owner, The Woodlands Inn & Resort
A celebration to honor volunteers will be held at the Woodlands in October.
