(WBRE/WYOU-TV) The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International airport has a new partner — but it’s not someone that you might expect.
The airport announced Thursday that it’s joining forces with Maywood University.
The school will begin offering its flight program at the airport in Luzerne County.
It’s currently the only Aviation Education program the Northeast Region.
“We came here for the facilities, the airport itself has great facilities for us, and also we are a growing operation, so we need more room” said Joseph McDonald, Marywood Aviation Program
“It’s very important from a global standpoint, that the pilots of tomorrow are educated. There is a shortage of pilots right now,
And we want to do our part to take care of that shortage” said Carl Beardsley, Airport Executive Director
Right now, there is a shortage of commercial pilots across the country — but Maywood says it has record enrollment coming for this fall semester.
