(WBRE/WYOU-TV) A number of people attending a rally in downtown Scranton tonight on the workplace freedom act legislation.   State Representative Maureen Madden and other lawmakers were joined by members of unions to push for the legislation. Madden and State Representative Tom Mehaffie, plan to re-introduce the act that allows workers to form a union with a simple majority card check- rather than a lengthy process.

Miranda Chemchick – Aramark at the University of Scranton – Newly Unionized told Eyewitness News,

“With this bill, I think it will really help us all have an equal opportunity to make more money better benefits for us and our families.”

“It gives them freedoms and protections and all kinds of things that they wouldn’t have otherwise if we had no union” Added Luann Henehan – Scranton School District Employee

Madden and Mehaffie first introduced the legislation in 2018 in response to the Janus vs AFSCME Supreme Court decision..
