WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY(WBRE/WYOU-TV) – While many started the holiday by sleeping in this morning, others were up early and out on their feet.
A run was held in Lycoming County that benefits the number one ticker in our bodies.
Adults..children..and even babies, decided to get up on the right foot and head to the hospital Monday morning.
But all for good reason.
“It’s a great feeling to see people come out and support the community,” said Owner and Operator of Integrity Racing, Richard Barto.
The 5K Run and Walk was held to promote healthy living.
“Your hear that’s the ticker it’s the number one,” said First Place Male Winner, Josh Ely.
“You lose the function of your heart…you’re done,” said David Michael from Waterville.
At least six hundred thousand people die of heart disease in the United States every year – that’s one in every four deaths.
That’s why runners say it’s important to stay on top of your health.
“This is a pretty tough course a lot of hills and gets your heart pumping fast on a Monday morning and it’s a good thing to do,” said President of the Lycoming County United Way, Ron Frick.
“A lot of people now like my age they just sit on their phones and play Fortnite and they don’t really get out. So it’s good to be outside and just do stuff,” said First Place Female Winner, Neoina Poleto.
“And as fun as it was to take on the windy roads and cross the finish line, these athletes say they’re ready to continue their holiday with some rest and relaxation.
“Just hangout with family before school starts tomorrow,” said Poleto.
“We’re going to picnic this afternoon with family,” said Frick.
Prizes were awarded to the overall top male and female winners..as well as the top male and female winners in different age categories.
Proceeds benefit the UPMC Susquehanna’s Heart & Vascular Institute.
