SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) It may have been a cold Friday evening but it was a warm place at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Scranton.
The congregation held an organ dedication concert, rededicating their organ that has just been upgraded.
Reverend Rebecca Barnes says the original organ was built and given to the church in 1964.
Despite its enhancements, all of the original pieces are still in place.
The debut of the new and improved organ featured Principal Organist Richard Elliott from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City. Utah.
“Something like what’s been done here is going last for, many generations” noted Elliot.
“It’s very well suited to accompany liturgical music but also to do concert music here in the church as well.” Added Reverend Barnes.
The organ is usually moved to the side during services but on Friday it had a special place, front and center.
