POTTSVILLE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Residents will start to notice changes at Schuylkill Health System starting Friday, Sept. 16.

The merger between Lehigh Valley Health Network and Schuylkill Health System goes into effect this week. Under the merger, both Schuylkill Health hospitals on East Norwegian Street and South Jackson Street in Pottsville will become part of the Lehigh Valley Health Network.

A new president has been appointed to run the hospitals, and he’s a Schuylkill County native.

“It’s just a huge opportunity to bring high quality health care back to Schuylkill County. Lehigh Valley Health Network is known nationwide as one of the top 100 hospitals in the country. That high quality will now be available here in Schuylkill County,” said William Reppy, president of Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill.

Reppy says integration of the hospital campuses is scheduled to be completed by late fall. The goal of the merger is to have more resources available for patients in Schuylkill County.
