MOUNTAIN TOP, LUZERNE COUNTY– While Sunday was largely a celebration of moms, for one local family, it was a celebration of veterans… and one veteran in particular.
Captain Gary Dietz served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1967. Decades later, he was honored for his service with a quilt of valor. Gary’s daughter, Ellen, nominated him to receive the award. For her, it’s a thank you to her father for his service, and for his character.
“I feel that our dad has showns us what it is to be a person who is civic minded,” Ellen told Eyewitness News, “Civic oriented, helping others whenever he could”
More than 217,000 quilts of valor have been given out across the country, and to others serving overseas. If you’d like to nominate someone for a Quilt of Honor, click here.
