HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – A teen from the Poconos is now a finalist on a national television show. And just a warning, you wouldn’t want to mess with this boy in the kitchen!
With a little mixing and lots of ingredients, Isaiah Hooks of Sciota creates some pretty impressive plates.
“I just love the joy and passion that comes from it. You feed people, they have smiles on their faces,” explains Isaiah Hooks.
The thirteen-year-old chef is making his original crab meatballs. He calls his cooking style “international mash-up”.
“Southern, Italian, Asian. You know, just home-y foods,” Hooks adds.
You may recognize Isaiah from your TV. He’s a well-know face on Food Network.
The teen’s one of three finalists on Food Network Star Kids, a new show searching for the best kid cook in the country. Isaiah auditioned just for fun, and before he knew it, this summer he was boarding a plane to film in West Hollywood.
“I was going in with my mind, if I make it to the first round great, but to make it to the finale was like… something else,” says an excited Hooks.
Isaiah’s serious skills started in his own kitchen, as one day three years ago se helped his mom make dinner.
“Everyone liked it, it came out good. After that, I fell in love with cooking!” he explains.
By stirring in a little love and a splash of passion, Isaiah Hooks has created a recipe for success.
“That just encourages my heart to keep feeding people, because I love to see people smile!” he adds.
In May the teen was also on an episode of Chopped Junior. His goals are to start a food truck business then own a restaurant. To find out if Isaiah Hooks wins Food Network Star Kids, watch the finale Monday night at 8 P.M.
