MONTROSE, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Farming is critical to Pennsylvania’s economy.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture says more than 59,000 farms employ 280,000 people. They are responsible for pumping near $140 billion into the economy each year.

At the Penn State Susquehanna Extension, they are trying to educate the community on the  importance of agriculture. To help the community better understand farming, Elk Lake High School will be holding its 30th annual Ag Day celebration.

“There are a lot of misguided things about agriculture. At Ag Day they come to learn about these things and a lot of the booths can teach them about what we do,” Victoria Clark, 12th grader in 4-H, said.

Ag Day will be Friday, March 1 from 10am to 3pm at Elk Lake High School.
