SUGARLOAF TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – Agriculture is Pennsylvania’s number one industry with farmers facing numerous problems.
Representative Tarah Toohil held her annual farmer’s breakfast on Thursday. Local farmers sat down to breakfast with local lawmakers to talk about their problems.
Along with weather and market pricing concerns, one local farmer says small farms are in danger of closing down.
“Little farmers like me, who don’t really have two nickels to rub together, unforfuntately are faced with a challenge of keeping you farmland or selling your farm and getting out of the business altogether, it becomes a no brainer for us,” Frede Fransen said.
Fransen said most farms in northeastern Pennsylvania are small.
