WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY– The practice of medicine has made leaps and bounds since it first began, but one local surgeon reach his own medical milestone in Wilkes-Barre this past week!
Dr. Joseph Ridilla is a general surgeon who specializes in micro-invasive, laparoscopic, and robitic surgeries. On Friday, as he walked into the hospital for his normal shift, his team surprised him with a cake and balloons for what he found out then was his 1000th robotic surgery!
“I hope the next 1000 goes as uneventful as the first 1000 did,” Dr. Ridilla told Eyewitness News.
The doctor says that he knew the day was coming, but he didn’t realize that particular surgery was the one! Good news for the patient- after he woke up from anesthesia, he and his family got to partake in the celelbration by eating some of the cake!
For anyone looking to enter the medical field, Dr. Ridilla says that it’s tough, and requires a lot of patience, but you’ve just got to go for it!
