CHESTNUTHILL TOWNSHIP, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – You’d expect to find books inside the local library, but at Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville you also get a workout.
“This is unique,” Dave Hamblin of Saylorsburg smiles.
The librarys downstairs area is an exercise facility. Dave Hamblin of Saylorsburg regularly uses the walking track.
“It’s great because of the floor and the atmosphere,” he adds.
Walkers write down how many laps they took that day, then at the end of the year a librarian tallies them all up. So far the track has been circled almost 100,000 times.
After a warm-up on the track, try a cardio or yoga stretch class.
“It’s a good workout for anybody,” says Carole Hamblin of Saylorsburg.
Carole Hamblin says in the age of technology it’s important for local libraries to adapt. She thinks this is a good way to bring people in.
“It’s so clean and so nice here and so pleasant so yeah I love coming here,” she adds.
With too much traffic and not enough sidewalks, it’s difficult to walk or jog around the Township. Dave says the workout facility is a great alternative to a gym membership.
“You don’t have walking tracks out in the park some place and of course the weather in the wintertime isn’t exactly fantastic,” Hamblin laughs.

“It’s great, we’re so thankful that they do this,” Hamblin adds.
You don’t have to be a library member or live in the Township to use the facility. Anyone of any age can walk the track for free, or attend classes for a small fee.
TRACK HOURS: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: 9 am – 7 pm.
Tuesday, Friday: 9 am – 4 pm
Saturday: 9 am – 3 pm
