Lehighton Shooting Investigation Update


LEHIGH COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV)   State Police are looking to identify a witness who contacted police about a driver of a van who was driving erratically in Carbon County.

That lead to a police pursuit beginning in Carbon County ending with a police-involved shooting in Lehigh Counties.  

    According to State Police, the Troop N Major Case Team is looking for a female who stopped at the J and N Gas Station on Broad Street in Beaver Meadows on December 18, 2018.  The woman reported a white van driving erratically to the Beaver Meadows Police Chief.   Police are asking that woman to contact them at 610-681-1850 with any information.

During the traffic stop, the driver of the van took, and a Police Pursuit was initiated.   A Municipal Police Officer deployed vehicle spike strips in an attempt to disable the vehicle and bring it to a stop.

The van was stopped at State Route 209 near Court Street, Franklin Township, Carbon County. According to police, the occupants refused to exit the vehicle. Multiple Police Officers then approached the vehicle to take the individuals into custody. A struggle then ensued between a Municipal Police Officer and  one of the occupants of the vehicle.  Four others were taken into custody,

   27-year-old Danny Washington was shot during a struggle with a municipal police officer. Washington was pronounced dead at a Lehigh County Hospital.    The investigation is on-going.
