Baby deliveries in Schuylkill County have arrived. Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill celebrated the latest addition to the family, their Family Birth and Newborn Center.
“We are the only hospital in schuylkill county that delivers in the county. If you want to deliver your baby, you have to go somewhere out of the county to do it,” David Krewson, chairman of the OB-GYN division at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Schuylkill said.
The brand new materity ward is located on the fourth floor of the hospital at the East Norwegian Campus. The Lehigh Valley Health Network president says they look forward to catering to new moms and their new bundles of joy.
“The fabric of a community, on the foundation of a healthy community is all about families and at the core of families – moms and babies,” Brian Nester, president and C.E.O of Lehigh Valley Health Network said.
The 15,000 square foot center has everying from nurseries to an O.R. suite and triage rooms.
This is one of the five labor delivery rooms. Lehigh Valley says they designed it with comfort and accessibility in mind.
“It is all built around making that mom, that new mom feel almost like she is at home,” Krewson said.
There are also nine rooms for moms to receive care after delivering their babies.
“Their family can come. The rooms are large enough to accomodate them. They can have their loved ones by their side,” Krewson said.
The newborn center is one of the latest additions since Lehigh Valley Network and Schuylkill Health System merged back in 2016.
“People know, oh no OB-GYN, moms, baby, maternity care is here at Lehigh Valley Schuylkill and it is going to be here forever,” Nester said.
The Family Birth and Newborn Center will start providing services once they finish going through all state inspections.
