LCTA Bus Drivers Honored

News

(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Two bus drivers are being hailed as heroes for helping a stabbing victim.

Ann Marie Kocher and Doris Shaw were recognized last night by the Luzerne County Transportation Authority and the Pennsylvania State Senate.

Police say they kept a woman safe after she was stabbed several times by her boyfriend 34-year-old, Delton Kirkland.

The scary situation unfolded earlier this month outside their apartment in Pittston.

The drivers brought the victim onto one of their buses. Shut the door to stop the suspect from getting inside and waited with the woman until first responders arrived.

“Horrible, horrible she was seriously injured if we weren’t there… I’m just grateful we were there because if we weren’t there she would not be here today,” Said Doris Shaw.

“I don’t think about it as heroic or anything just natural anybody would do it,” Said Ann Marie Kocher

Both bus drivers visited the woman in the hospital.

She is expected to be okay.
