NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – No one knew what to expect exactly when crews started digging in the middle of campus at the Luzerne County Community College for a time capsule.
Those who knew about the time capsule were excited to see what pieces of history were left behind for them 25 years ago.
“I guess we put some bumper stickers in there and thats good because it shows how long weve been around,” said Ron Reino, the supervisor of the student run radio station.
The station left its old logo in this time capsule. Reino forgot they’d put it there.
“It’s a great way to bring back an old memory. To know that we’ve been around long enough to the point where we could be nationally recognized, that’s pretty cool,” said Reino.
And that was not the only memory. On this 50th anniversary of the community college, staff and students unearthed dozens of other memories.Old photos, LCCC memorabilia, administrative documents and more – each with a story to tell about life back in 1992.
Current students and faculty will add to this box of memories and re-bury the time capsule for the next generation.
