Lackawanna County Land Bank celebrating 100th property sold

News

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) Celebrating 100! That’s how many properties have been sold through the Lackawanna County land bank since the program started two years ago.

Tony Cantafio is the now property owner that purchased the 100th property. His body shop that sits on Gordon Ave has been covered in high weeds and brush for years. Even before he purchased five properties surrounding the business, he would clean up the area.

“The property around the building were all vacant, over grown, filled with rubble, trash, people, people dumping leaves, and trees,” said Cantafio.

Cantafio was presented a deed to one of his newly acquired properties from Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick O’Malley on Thursday.

The county owns 76 more properties that are awaiting homeowners or property owners.
