BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY– For The Cause is in the business of giving back, and they’re really hitting their stride in the Columbia County community.
The nonprofit has been in business for a decade, but it’s their latest venture that’s gotten them recognition across the area: a Teen Center located in Berwick.
The Teen Center has been up-and-running for almost two years. In those two years, attendance has nearly doubled, perhaps, because it was designed for both the kids that want it… and the kids that need it.
“We have, like, a kitchen and food that we have access to,” says Teen Center director, Teresa Peters, “And that the teens have access to when they come in, and that’s always available to them, with food insecurity being a really big issue.”
Because of the way that this safe space has impacted the community, For The Cause won the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Award in 2018- a big achievement for this company coming from humble beginnings.
“Looking at the other organizations and businesses that were nominated,” says For The Cause’s Josh Nespoli, “It was pretty humbling, and at the same time, it was the first time where we took a step back to look at what we’ve actually done.”
Helping the community now, to set it up for success in the future.
