Keeping kids busy with Thanksgiving arts & crafts

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)- Thanksgiving is this week and ahead of the holiday, we’re helping you get prepared.

It can be difficult keeping kids occupied when lots of adults are preparing the meal, so we’re showing you a simple craft that will keep kids busy.

“Today we’re going to be making a slime Christmas ornament,” the idea coming to us from Kara Johnson, a Michael’s crafter.

With the recent slime-craze, it’s sure to be a hit at your Thanksgiving party. You just need a glass ornament that you’ll fill with slime, paint, pipe cleaners, and brushes.

Just follow these steps:

“You’re going to paint the top half of the ornament where the slime isn’t,” says Johnson.

Let it try then grab the red paint to make the elf’s hat.

“I painted the silver part here so it kind of makes it like the top of his hat,” Johnson said, as she showed us an example of her work.

As that’s driving, you’ll paint the elf’s accessory, a black belt.

“Right underneath where you did the skin tone, you’re going to follow around and do a thicker black line,” says Johnson.

Next, paint two red circles for buttons on his vest. Now you’re ready to make the holder.

“I took a red and green pipe cleaner and I twisted them together,” says Johnson.

Feed it through the ornament hole. Then it’s time to add a face to the elf ornament. Add a few accessories, and you’re done!
