Jury to Begin Deliberating in McHale Case

News

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU-TV) A Lackawanna County Jury will begin deliberating the fate of a former Corrections Officer who is accused of forcing a female inmate to perform a sex act on him in 2009.
Closing arguments just wrapped up in the trial of George McHale in Federal Court.

The Judge is now explaining the charges to the jury.
McHale as he arrived at court this morning. His Defense lawyer told the jury that the victim has a long history of theft and lying. That her story just isn’t credible. He urged them not to let her steal a good man’s reputation.

But Prosecutors countered by insisting that McHale chose the woman to be his victim because of her past thinking that nobody would believe her.

The Deputy Attorney General said this is a case of abuse of power and abuse of trust.

The jury will begin deliberations this afternoon.
