Judge forwards some charges against ex-PSU frat members to court

BELLEFONTE, CENTRE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – A Centre County judge has held some charges against a dozen former Penn State University fraternity members for court.

All 12 former Beta Theta Pi members are facing charges in connection to Timothy Piazza’s death in 2017. Piazza died last February after falling down a flight of steps during a night of drinking at the fraternity house.

The defendants were facing several charges, including misdemeanor reckless endangerment. However, the judge dismissed some of those charges against each member.

Here is a list of what charges were forwarded on to court against each man:

  • Ryan Burke: hazing prohibited, unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees, and purchase, consumption, possession, or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages
  • Jonathan Kanzler: hazing prohibited, unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees, and purchase, consumption, possession, or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages
  • Bo Han Song: hazing prohibited, unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees, and purchase, consumption, possession, or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages
  • Joshua Kurczewski: hazing prohibited, unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees, and purchase, consumption, possession, or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages
  • Aidan O’Brien: hazing prohibited, unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees, and purchase, consumption, possession, or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages
  • Joseph Gerard: hazing prohibited and unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees
  • Michael Fernandez: hazing prohibited and unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees
  • Brian Gelb: hazing prohibited and unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees
  • Reginald Goeke: hazing prohibited and unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees
  • Patrick Jackson: hazing prohibited and unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees
  • Donald Prior: hazing prohibited and unlawful acts relative to liquor, malt, and brewed beverages and licensees

One of the 12 defendants had all of his charges dismissed. Braxton Becker was facing tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, and hindering apprehension or prosecution. All of those charges have been dismissed.

The judge also dismissed a selling or furnishing liquor or malt or brewed beverages to minors charge against the other 11 defendants. The recklessly endangering another person charge that five of the defenders were facing, was also dismissed.
