HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (WBRE/WYOU) – Popular “Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek says he’s received promising news after undergoing a first round of chemotherapy in his fight against cancer.

Trebek says he met with this doctors to review his status after the first round of sessions

“They are VERY happy with the way I have responded to the chemo and in fact say that I am ‘near remission.’ Trebek says in a statement released Wednesday. “I want to be clear that I am not cured and not in remission, but the doctors say they have never seen such a positive response to chemo. I believe that this response is due in large part to the thoughts and prayers of all of my friends, co-workers, and the millions of fans who have been sending positive energy on my behalf.”

Trebek’s publicist says a full story on his battle will appear in the June 10th issue of PEOPLE Magazine, which will also be online Wednesday May 29th.
