These salted pretzels are just one chocolate waterfall away from becoming a delicious gourmet confection.

Behind the chocolate creations at Michael Mootz candies are homemade recipes that date back to the early 1900s in Catherine Mootz’ kitchen.

Or as Jason Mootz knows her, “Gammy Mootz”.

As the story goes, Gammy Mootz made too much chocolate one Easter and decided to sell the extra in her family’s Pottsville grocery store.
People loved it! And the demand for her chocolate continued to grow.
Now four-generations later, Jason is using many of his family’s original recipes.

“It’s all very high quality ingredients and old family recipes. We haven’t changed it in a hundred years because if it’s not broke don’t fix it.” Said Jason Mootz, Vice President Michael Mootz Candies

This 40-foot enrober covers a variety of sweets in chocolaty blanket.

These peanut butter melt-aways are one of the most popular treats.

And when the peak chocolate season ends, it’s time for the creamery to open up. From may through september customers can enjoy homemade chocolate on ice-cream. “

“Chocolate covered Oreos, chocolate covered pretzels, we have chocolate covered Swedish fish and gummy bears, so you have a pretty amazing selection of of toppings to put on that a lot of other ice-cream shops don’t have. ” noted Jason Mootz.

    Gammy Mootz would be proud!
