News of British Indy Car Driver Justin Wilson’s death is affecting race fans across the globe.
He died following a crash Sunday in the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway
In a split second, the 37 year old’s career came to a tragic end when a piece of Sage Karam’s car hit Wilson in the head with just 21 laps remaining in the race.
He was immediately airlifted to a Lehigh Valley hospital where he died Monday night.
A day after the tragic news hit fans, some are once again questioning the safety of motor racing and open cockpits.
Wilson leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.
Pocono raceway offer their condolences to his family in a statement saying in part: “It is with heavy hearts we express our deepest condolences to the Wilson family. Justin was a talented driver on the track and an amazing person to be around off it. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Justin’s family, his friends, his fans and everyone at Andretti Autosport.”
