(WBRE/WYOU-TV) Eyewitness News is following a developing story in Luzerne County. An investigation is underway into what police are calling an apparent ambush shooting. It happened in Conyngham.
Gunfire erupted here outside the CVCO, that’s the Conyngham Valley Civic Organization Recreation Center near Main Street. State Troopers say at least three shots were fired. One of those bullets went through the window of this home near the Rec Center.
Troopers tell the T-team that a group of men had rented the CVCO from 9 pm Monday night until midnight to play basketball. When they were leaving the Rec Center just after midnight, somebody opened fire. One bullet went through the window of that home. Police say an elderly man was asleep in an upstairs bedroom.
Troopers say as far as they know, nobody was injured in the shooting.
The incident was captured on security cameras. The I-Team’s Andy Mehalshick was told you can clearly see three flashes from a gun.
At this point in time State Troopers are trying to locate the person or group who rented the Rec center. They are also checking with local hospitals to see if any gunshot victims showed up overnight. Troopers are also checking security cameras on nearby homes and businesses trying to determine who opened fire.
