“I heard some breaking glass. I saw a picture fall off the wall that’s when I called 9-1-1,” That’s how a man who was asleep in a home located near the Conyngham Valley Civic Organization-recreational Center or CVCO described what happened. He did not want to be identified saying he fears for his safety. But off camera, he tells Eyewitness News a bullet came through his window. While he was sleeping just feet away.
Eyewitness News asked the man what he thought knowing now it was a gunshot? He told us “It was a little scary for this area”.
The violence erupted just after midnight. “When people who rented the gym last night at the Conyngham CVCO exited they were fired upon. They retreated back into the building. The actors fled in an unknown direction,” Explained Trooper Anthony Petroski-State Police Hazleton
Six men were seen leaving the CVCO. State police say surveillance video from the rec center shows three flashes from the gunfire. A second bullet hit a nearby garage, Troopers spent much of the morning looking for evidence in and near the CVCO. Investigators also checked with nearby hospitals for possible victims. CVCO officials say they are taking steps to make sure folks who use their rec center are safe.
“The CVCO board takes this type of event very seriously. We are working with the state police and the Conyngham police. In the future, we want to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again. We are also taking additional safety steps and measures,” Said Brian Early- CVCO- Board Member
