WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) UGI about to begin major gas line replacement project in Wilkes-Barre. The I-Team’s Andy Mehalshick talked with residents who are cautiously optimistic.
It will take place in the same Wilkes-Barre neighborhood where a gas line high pressure problem forced evacuations.
Dozens of people were without gas service for about a month in December.
Residents in the Rolling Mills Hill Section are happy to hear about the new lines but also a little nervous.
The natural gas main improvement project will be take place on the following streets:
Stanton Street between the Park Avenue/Hazle Street intersection and High Street;
Harkins Lane from Griffith Lane to Airy Street;
Griffith Lane between Stanton Street and Harkins Lane;
Airy Street between Stanton Street and Harkins Lane.
The project is expected to last approximately seven weeks and is expected to be completed by the end of August. Natural gas main replacement construction will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
