Honoring a Scranton WWII veteran

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) More than seven decades after giving his life for our freedom a soldier is home. 

Tuesday, WWII veteran Willard “Bud” Jenkins will be laid to rest in Lackawanna County. Local veterans are asking for help to honor the hero.

There will be a procession starting at noon at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home in Scranton. Private first class Jenkins will be buried at the Abington Hills Cemetery 

“Standing on the curb lines, standing on the sidewalk, hold a flag put your hand over your heart,” said Edward Chomko Sr., Vietnam Veteran. 

“The more people we get out to show Edna, hey we do care about your brother the better it is,” said Dave Eisele, Lackawanna County Department of Veterans Affairs. 

The army veteran died at the age of 27 while fighting in Europe. Thursday he was brought home with a dignified transfer at the Newark Airport. 74 years since he left to defend our country. 

The procession will start at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home then proceed to Railroad Ave, to Luzerne Street, South Main Ave, Route 11, Keyser Avenue, Morgan Highway and then arrive at the cemetery.
